An international cosmetic and beauty supply company was experiencing a slump in sales and a high turnover of personnel. They examined ways to improve the performance of their field representatives to drive sales and reduce costs associated with training and monitoring of employees. The company also employed a high number of seasonal and temporary employees that added significant costs to their bottom line. All of the field representatives and other mobile employees had to continually check in by phone and fill out lengthy forms at each location. In order to increase their sales, the company hired a consultant to audit its shelves and displays of all locations in selected areas. The audit concluded that there were missing products at almost every location and testers had not been changed when empty. Displays were disorganized or not transformed correctly with products placed on the wrong shelf. The company experienced difficulty in locating which employees were responsible for these stores as up until this point employees had been writing down their work hours, locations, and tasks in paper logbooks. Sorting through all of these logbooks was extremely inefficient. Management wanted an easier way to assign tasks to a large number of their mobile employees and have the capacity to quickly follow up that all tasks were completed at every location. Management was also aware that the time spent filling out paperwork was time away from the product, and ultimately resulted in lost sales and merchandise gaps. They simply needed mobile workforce automation.


Each shelf was then labelled with an NFC-TAG and all employees were given an NFC-capable mobile phone. Each time an employee visited a store they scanned the NFC-TAG to verify that they had completed restocking and merchandising the shelf. All tester cases were also equipped with NFC-TAGs and the employee would scan this after all tester cases were double checked and restocked. This information was sent to the web portal, inViu pro, where management could verify the location visited and tasks completed. They continued to audit random locations and could easily address any problems with the merchandise gaps with the last person who worked on the shelf.


With mobile workforce automation, the company was able to save on administrative costs, verify the work completed of all employees, and increase sales. Each shelf of the company's product was now serviced regularly according to schedule and was verified by one of the field representatives. This led to a decrease of merchandise gaps and tester outages and an increase in sales across the board. Field representatives and regional managers also had less paperwork, allowing them to focus on sales and merchandising.
